  I used to go fishing all of the time. Every day after work, every weekend. I had a hard time imagining life without a fishing pole in my hand. Then I got married, and that ended. I didn’t go fishing again until after I was divorced, and even then, I think it was only once. I raised my daughter alone for the last 9 years, and I was just never able to walk away from her long enough to cast a line. It wasn’t a total shift in priorities, but my daughter effectively eclipsed everything else. I’m not complaining about that, I am very happy with the way everything worked out as far as that goes, but I have never stopped missing going fishing. When my 9 year old daughter said “Dad, this weekend, may we go fishing?” I almost wept. For her first time going fishing, I didn’t want to dig out my equipment, clean it up and go spend a day that, though rewarding in its own way, could have resulted in her bored out of her mind, catching absolutely nothing… so I started searching head boats near me. As a kid, I used to go out on them all the time, so I figured it would be a good way to make sure my daughter had a good first fishing trip and especially, ensure that she caught some fish. After reading reviews and checking around, I finally settled on The Sea Spirit. Once we got underway, I began seeing my 9 year old self in my daughter all over again. The seas were a little rough, so she wanted to sit up in the bow and get the full on rollercoaster effect. As a kid, I never got sea sick, so even though I gave her Dramamine (according to the directions on the package) I wasn’t really expecting her to… oh but she did. It was like somebody flipped a switch. One second she was rocking out, the next she was puking over the rail. In the bow of a boat. Underway. In rough seas. NOT. FUN. My special fishing trip just turned into a complete disaster. …but, then the crew just appeared around us, calmly helping negotiate her to the back of the boat; giving clear, concise and effective advice on how to reduce the effects of seasickness, and making every feasible accommodation for her. None of the passengers minded (at least it wasn’t apparent if they did) being shifted around to help out my daughter, and the crew made first class flight attendants look sluggish and imperceptive. They were AWESOME. Not once, throughout the entire trip, did they ever wain in their attempts to make things easier on my daughter, and through their efforts, after several hours of their attention, she finally started feeling better. Then they took extra care to help make sure she caught a fish, her first fish ever, and several more. After a while, I realized that half of the crew that was being so diligent, wasn’t even WORKING that day! They were here as passengers, fishing on their day off! These guys are so dedicated to making sure each person’s experience is top-notch, that they were doing this without even getting paid for it! No, not without getting paid… they were paying out their own hard earned money (and believe me, they work harder than most for their pay) to be there that day, and instead of relaxing and fishing, they were helping me take care of my daughter, helping her first fishing trip ever, go from disaster to “That was way cool, Dad!” On the ride back, my daughter said she had a blast, and if being seasick was the price she had to pay for having such an awesome day, she was willing to go through it again. I couldn’t have pulled that off without the Captain and Crew of the Sea Spirit. After this experience, the reviews for these guys don’t do them justice. Heck, I don’t think I can express how much I appreciate them with words alone. I honestly do not believe there is a better boat on the water than the Sea Spirit. Period.
